Shim for slider window

I have a 28-year-old wooden shelter slider window. The window ledge has sunk a little. The window still locks, but the outer slider has to bow out a little in the locking process. The previous owner created a shim out of cardboard and caulk that propped the outer slider up a little so the window locked perfectly. Unfortunately painters removed the window, knocking out the shim. So I need to replace the shim at the base of the outer slider where it slides along the track. What materials might you recommend for a new shim? I would like to make something more substantial than cardboard and caulk.
