Check places like Habitat for Humanity Resale, where you can find cabinets that could be used for a basement laundry. Lots of good quality cabinets are removed due to outdated styles or features people don't want, that you may be able to paint. Also try Kitchen/Bath stores or Overstock type stores to see if they have clearance cabinets since you likely only need a few. Depending on the type of storage you're looking for, you might also consider antique or consignment stores for large cabinets/buffets/armoires that people can't use when they downsize.

I should say that we are not DIYers;), We do need specific measurements even though I don't need many. I will see if I can find clearance cabinets though as you mentioned. thx

We just had a similar dilema. Custom in the kitchen, but the cost is way too much for laundry - even though it's right next to the kitchen. I ended up choosing cheap stock cabs from HD. I wanted these tall units for the extra tall compartment I could use for a broom closet, etc. and a couple base cabs for the sink area. They are ok. It's not paint, but foil, but the inside is nice light wood tone foil too. They aren't as bad as I was afraid they'd be. The filler pieces don't match this white perfectly, so I would suggest their more common plain Shaker line if that would bother you. We are waiting on a replacement for one of the tall units because the first one was damaged in shipping. For a laundry room, these are fine. I'll try to share a couple photos later. (the insallation is only partial right now.)

I have a vacation rental property that I did a major reno on a few years back due to a flood. Prior to the flood, the laundry was in a closet in a hall next to the bathroom. When the reno was almost done - and definitely over budget - we discovered that we weren’t going to be able to put the doors back on the closet (long story why) and what had been a hall with a laundry closet was not going to be a laundry room that was also a pass through to the bathroom. I was pretty upset at the idea that people would be going through the laundry area every time they used the bathroom and even more upset that there wasn’t budget left to at least make it a decent room. Final solution - a very inexpensive cabinet and shelving from Home Depot and some pretty home dec stuff to jazz it up. Believe it or not we get comments all the time from renters about how pretty it is!! Go figure 😂. Cabinet has been in place for four years now and still looks brand new.

@Bea Goulding I deliberately chose a cabinet with a tall compartment. Most are too short for this use. Yes, the slide out rack is an ikea piece that was retrofitted. i also arranged the bins sort of upside-down to allow more room toward the bottom.

FYI, we got these installed now. Our replacement arrived for the second tall unit, and it too was damaged, so now we wait until mid-October for #3. They’re delivering it straight here this time. Getting tired of this - though it is shipping/handling damage, not flawed construction. Have you been able to find cabinets that work for you?

That looks great. Did you purchase the countertop separately and what is it exactly (butcher block from where)? I am leaning heavily towards Home Depot's Home Decorator's collection which is online online but about 14 day availability so not too long. It is one notch up from hampton bay so painted wood with painted mdf doors, pretty reasonably priced Tremont Gray Shaker doors.

Yeah, these are one of the less common Hampton Bay lines called Courtland. The choice was exclusively driven because of that tall cabinet for the broom closet. I’m fine with it, but the second tall unit came damaged yet again, so I have to wait for them to try again. Once that arrives we will be done with cabinetry and I can work on finishing touches- backsplash, drying rack, etc.

The butcher block is also found at HD. They carry some in the stores, other styles online. The vendor has a lot of species and sizes available. This one is one of their more showy styles. So do I you have two sinks? For the butcher block did Home Depot cut it to fit for you? I’m planning to get a freestanding sink also made by transolid with similar dimensions. So I will not use a cabinet for it.

No, this replaced the fiberglass tub. One of our good friends is a carpenter. He cut the hole and scribed the end on the wall. He also helped install the cabinets.
