Great painting. I like the idea of a round rug in one of the colors from the painting. A round glass top table with a open metal base would look good. I would find a place for a large mirror with an ornate gold frame as a counter-balance.

Thanks for your thoughts! Unfortunately, there is no other hanging space in the foyer, as all of the walls have passageways to the other rooms. Also, I'm trying to keep the room in a modern style as much as possible, given the style of the painting and the furniture in the other rooms.

Agree, a table in the middle, something fairly simple, perhaps something like the Saarinen table. Put accessories on it that tie into the colors of the picture, and it will be a great place to add some flowers/greenery that also connect to the colors in the picture. It won't block the picture, it will complement it and make it feel a part of the house and intentional (rather than the only wall that you could fit it). That picture is so bold (and very cool, love, love the colors), it will be nice to integrate it into the other decorative elements in the room to give your eye a place to bounce around and rest. You use color to do that.

I'm not sure about a rug, but maybe. You wouldn't want a rug too bold or modern, because it would fight with the painting. I can't tell what the floors are, if you are not fond of them, then definitely cover the entry with as large a rug as you can (within 4" to 6" to the wall). You can get seagrass or custom cut and bound wool carpet made to exactly the size you need, and it won't be terribly expensive.

On the wall with the narrow doorway, you could put a pair of matching chairs on each side of the opening. Perhaps your extra dining chairs? Or find a pair of chairs you like. It is always nice to have chairs in an entry foyer in case folks need to change their shoes or place their bag or a package down while removing their coats.

A simple table shouldn't interfere with the artwork. The large ottoman is also an interesting idea. It's nice to have a place to set something down when entering, for you or your guests. And any of these pieces could easily be used in other areas when you move to another home.

What do you need in the entry? Is this a place where you come through everyday from the outside and leave from or is it just guests that enter? Do you walk through here several times a day to get to the other rooms from other areas of the house?

I like things to function and if you walk through here several times a day then having something in the middle might be in the way. If you like the idea of a table in the center try putting a box about the size of the table to test it out. If this is your main entry having somewhere to sit might be nice if you remove/put on shoes in this area.

I think a rug that doesn't compete with the artwork is a good suggestion. One other thing I would consider is changing the light bulb to something less yellow looking. I think it will help how your artwork looks too.

If a table or something in the middle is not an option then maybe a table or a bench below the artwork. It looks to me like you have space for some smaller pieces on the side walls on each side of the openings. Maybe put a planter with a large plant in it fake or real, just make sure if it is real that it can tolerate low light conditions.

I definitely plan on changing out the light fixture altogether in that room. I don't think there was enough space to flank the small entrance to the office with chairs because of the door that opens from the bathroom there. What do you think about doing around a banquette style circular type of couch there in the middle instead of a table? See attached photo. I feel like the tables in the foyer are so overdone and expected and I would like to do something interesting and unexpected to greet my guests. (This is the home provided by employer where I'll be expected to entertain.) This foyer is primarily used for guests coming into the home and from day to day I will use it to pass through to go to the living room.

You could do something like an ottoman there for seating or something of similar size if you can find it. The one you show is way too big to allow for walking around it comfortably especially if you have more than one person there at a time. I'd look for something that isn't more than 4 ft in diameter if you have 12 ft available.

Can you paint the walls? Some contrast to the trim in a neutral color might be nice and something to enhance your artwork over the yellowish color that is there now, although the light bulb is making it seem more yellow too.

If you were reluctant to block the view of the painting, I don't understand the circular banquette since that large piece of funiture will dominate the small entry room. Tables in foyers have been "done" for hundreds of years because they function well in a foyer. You can change the fresh flower arrangement weekly, change the objects, and put small ottomans underneath them.

I see those circular banquettes working in a very large hotel lobby where the designer needed to fill the space and create a natural circulation divider.

But if that is what you want, you do you.

Looks like there's and electrical outlet on that wall. Use an art lamp with your piece. I think you'll find that you have to dodge the table in the middle every time you cross that foyer. I suggest you try a pair of slender, modern shelves flanking the door that has the two baseboard heaters. They will pull the eye up and away from the heaters. Thinking something skinny like this. You could top them with slender vases picking up on a color from the art, an orchid, or a contemporary sculpture to compliment your art..

I have coveted a square entry, however never had one. Use a round table and make sure it doesn't look like a dining table. A large vase of flowers or leaves of your choice. A basket for mail and keys. Perfect. You also have room for a chair or stool. Lucky you.

Thanks, but the issue is designing around the large artwork that only fits on one wall, and the multiple doorways on the remaining wall that leaves no room for a stool or seating. I'm concerned a table with decor will block the view of the artwork, which should be appreciated and viewed in its whole form.

Also, I can't put anything on the side walls as Beverly suggested. The door to the bathroom needs to open. And putting anything on the other side would block the painting. The painting is six feet tall, so it will barely fit on the wall as it is. Only 8 feet tall ceilings here.

Since you only have the one wall available for the art, maybe you should hang the painting first and then post pix of the foyer. Try one with doors closed too.

Good idea. Perhaps that will help everyone visualize it. There are no doors to the passageway. There are only doors in the closet and the bathroom, which are closed in the current pictures.
