Deciding on Fall trees (Leamington, Ontario). I know some of the oaks can be iffy for late planting; I will delay a White Oak for next spring. A Northern Red was put in 3 yrs ago in Fall and had to be yanked out as it had no branch extension at all and looked rather moribund. These days I have no patience for trees that do not progress by second and third season.

Are the Red Oaks better for spring generally as with some of the other oaks, or are they fine for Fall ? The tip of Southwestern Ontario is quite south for Canada. My only experience with Fall oaks is just the one. A Swamp, an English and Burr have done well from Spring planting here.
