Vanity light thoughts please :)

last modified: 5 years ago

We're slowly updating most elements in our 50s-ish bathroom and I'm hoping to get your thoughts about the vanity light.

This is a pic of the space-in-progress (just after another coat of paint) from earlier today:

The vanity itself is 24" wide, but the mirror is 14" and the frame around it is 18" wide. Most of the light fixtures we like are around 26" wide -- like this one, for example, from Artika in Canada:

Incidentally we do have a dimmer switch, and the room is south-facing. We intend to add two thick 24" floating shelves above the toilet, but can't decide if they should be white or stained wood (suggestions welcome!).

Here are some of the questions about the light I'd love to have your thoughts on:

1. Should we keep the vanity light fixture the same width/shorter than the mirror? Is a wider one going to look odd?

2. Is this particular fixture style way too blingy for the space? (We are trying to go for an "updated 50s" sort of look, whatever that means; I'm just bizarrely indecisive as all get-out these days and can't focus to save my life). Do you have any thoughts on a different look that could take the room in a slightly different style direction?

3. Do you have any thoughts on LED lights? This particular one is 3000K, so it's warmish--should I go for something cooler maybe?

Many thanks in advance for any thoughts at all! :)
