Is this acceptable work?

I paid 2/3 of what we agreed with my contractor. And my contractor is demanding full payment. I sent him the pictures below asking if the job is 100% finished and he is not responding.

It’s my first time using people to fix/update and just want to make sure I am not being too picky or asking for impossible standards on finished work. I feel the work is not finished to acceptable quality. Also, if I should hire someone else to finish up for quality work.

1- Bathroom: This is cauking/silicon finish my contractor’s guys did as finished job in bathroom tub, shower window seal, and vanity sink.

2- Gap between the tile ans under the cabinet in the kitchen: there is about 1/4 inch of gap that is filled with grout (or is it sanded calk?) and the filling has big holes that looks like it needs more fillin….. or is it how it is finished?

With what material is the gap supposed to be filled? grout or silicon calk?

3- End side of cabinet meeting tile:

The gap is again filled with white grout (or calk) or is it supposed to be finished with clear silicon calk?

4- gap between tile and granite: my contractor could not find matching granite strip for base so I just said OK to put tile above granite top. Is it supposed to be finished without calk sealing the gap between the granite and the tiles? Or is this how it is done?

Of course it's not acceptable, it's a good example of poor workmanship. But, the contractor may not be capable of better than this.

"I paid 2/3 of what we agreed with my contractor."

If he thinks that is complete and finished I would ask for him to return the 2/3 you already paid. Each picture gets worse and worse each time I look again.

It is a relief to know I am not asking for impossible! Could you give me some input on questions for pictures #2,3,4, please?

Horrible, unacceptable. Document everything and do not pay another dime. Use the 1/3 you haven't paid for someone else to come in and fix.

Beware....many companys that were reputable are now hiring amatures to fill jobs due to the shortage of labor.

Those that want to wait for things to slow down to hire a Pro had best consider getting in line now as the Pro's will be tied up with many years of repair work do to all the hack work being done now. Seen this movie before.

I showed your pictures to my husband and he said: did a child do that caulk/ grout job! Of course it is not acceptable and you need to get an experienced tiler to fix it. First get recommendations on a great tiler, interview him and review pictures of his previous renovations. I was my own GC when I had renovations done in my home: kitchen, bathrooms, electrical, plumbing, flooring, entry door, and oak staircase. I took a lot of time getting recommendations of various craftsmen, looked at their reviews and pictures of their work and interviewed them too. I was lucky enough to have most of my renovations done before the Covid crisis hit. Picking out great materials for your home renovations is important; but more important is who you choose to do the work❣️❣️

I can calk better than that!

Write up a complete punch list of everything that is incomplete and unacceptable and email it with a read receipt. If he doesn't respond or read the email send the same by registered letter.

Part of any job is doing a punch list at the end before final payment is issued.

This is sickening and makes me very weary of every contractor.
