Should I do a stand up shower or shower/tub combo in master bath?

I own a 780 sq ft 1 bed, 1 bath condo in a highrise building in downtown Boston. I am planning a full bathroom renovation and putting in a brand new shower. Ideally I would like to do a modern standup shower with glass doors and a spa like feel but am unsure if doing so will hurt my chances of resale. I do not take baths and have no need for a tub but am curious if it would make more sense to do a shower/tub combo to attract future buyers down the road when I plan to sell. Is it recommended to keep a tub in a one bed/one bath unit in the city? Would love some advice from urban real estate agents or designers. Thanks!

That will definitely hurt your resale value - you need to have a tub in there, no matter where you live. Take a look at Kohler's Bellwether tub. It is shallow and contemporary.

I think, with a 1 bedroom, that going with a shower only would be ok. You definitely won't be reselling to a family with children and most adults prefer showers.

I don't think a one bath one bed needs a tub.
There will be buyers who prefer a tub and buyers that prefer a shower.

The glamour of a sleek, contemporary shower will win out with the young and single group any day over a stodgy tub/shower combo. Fear not. Make it beautiful and it will sell!

I am a young, single, urban gay man and I would NEVER BUY A PLACE WITH NO TUB. i am mad enough that I have to convert my master bath back into a tub, because I like baths with fresh air and the hall bath has no window, although it does have a Jacuzzi that is nice.

I have refused to book hotels without a bath. Nothing more relaxing than a bath and a book after a crazy day.

Do do not do it. I skipped places without a tub, and only 1 tub here gave me pause. I ended up here researching how to convert the shower to a tub or combo.

I, too, would never buy a house without a tub, but most young singles would. I'm happy that you are the exception.

We are selling our 1 Bedroom/1 Bath condo in downtown DC. The agent recommended keeping the tub/shower combo.

I prefer a nice spacious shower, but wouldn’t take away the tub option if I planned to sell in say, the next 5 years (and the property doesn’t have another tub).
