America's obsession with dark green landscapes. Unfortunately I haven't been able to change my husband's mind on this either other than him getting an electric mower. So much pesticide and water used trying to keep these patches of green for what?

Aside from that Houzz contributors will want to know where you're located because soil is a factor when working with your lawn. They'll also want to know what kind of grass you have assuming you know, but if you share your location they can narrow it down.

I recommend contacting your water department to learn who provides free lawn water assessment; while in Fort Worth I had one done for free and it helped me learn how to water my lawn without wasting water while keeping a healthy lawn. If your city doesn't provide it for free then ask for a landscaping company, and pay for, to do it because it's worth conserving water while using it.

I don't have experience on organic lawn and fertilizer but it'll be great if somebody could share that; we need less pesticides and chemicals trickling into aquifers and run off.

Yes I forgot it’s Texas area about an hour south of Dallas. It’s also Bermuda. I do notice a bunch of tiny spiders and I haven’t sprayed for them yet but I do have stuff to put down. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Create a front planting bed with a tree or three and that will take your focus off the grass. Landscaping improves your home’s value and may encourage the neighbors to do the same.
