Sunquat still not sure if I like it

I recently had a ripe fruit. The taste is hard to describe but there is a peppery afternote. Part of the problem when fully ripe looks like a lemon and there is an expectation in me Young tree and I need to try more. On the pro side: Very little trouble, generally compact, takes to the indoors, will bear young with decent size fruit (such as it is, Kumquat/Lemon hyrbrid). It definitely fills an ornamental niche in that something should be blooming, holding fruit somewhere in a group of trees indoors. Fruit is significantly larger than a Calamondin

Even if the fruits aren't good now they may improve to tasty as the tree ages.

I once had a Sunquat, due to the taste, I tossed it out and replaced it with another citrus cultivar.

It's a bit hard to describe. Definitely citrusy, but not as lemony tasting as it looked (probably plays a role on taste anticipation) somewhat sweet, not sour like a calamondin. Peel was OK, neutral taste. I had a limequat (since offed) but never liked it nor do I care for limes. There is a distinct after taste somewhat peppery. Not astringent or chemical like, Not a fruit to be eaten out of hand but neither is a lemon, very very occasionally I will suck on a lemon wedge in a drink but that's it. Definitely has culinary use especially with that citrusy but peppery afternote in salad dressing or cooking. Not so sure about using it in a drink, but didn't try. Just the first taste from a young tree, I think its unique to stand in its own category. Have to try more.
