I'm in central Maryland, with a basement that's fully below ground level. We use our dehumidifier for about 6 months of the year. Our electric bill in the spring with the dehumidifier and no A/C was about $75.00. The highest summer bill with both the dehumidifier and A/C running was about $109.00. I suppose the cost can vary depending on the size of the basement, the amount of moisture, and the electric supplier rates.

The dehumidifier isn't set to run continuously, we keep it at 58%. But it cycles on and off so frequently it's almost continuous. It's made a huge difference in how the basement air feels and smells. I'd never want to be without one. Ours is an Energy Star Haier, about 7 years old.
