Starmark Cabinet Supply Issues

I figured I would give a heads up to anyone contemplating Starmark cabinets. I ordered mid-April and they just arrived around August 20th. One of my base cabinets was never made, toe kick wasn’t sent, still don’t have that, my island back panels and island trim was MIA for a week. I was advised my missing cabinet would be rushed and would arrive within two weeks which should have been last Friday. It was supposed to arrive today, truck got delayed and now we don’t even think it is on the truck. My three week reno is on week five and we have been stopped for two weeks. Can’t even get an answer from Starmark as to where my missing base cabinet is or when it will arrive. Moral is don’t trust your order will arrive complete even when it has been delayed over a month already and start your renovation until every single piece has been accounted for. Oh and one of my island base cabinets wasn’t glazed or distressed so they will have to repair on site.

This is industry wide. Not any one manufacturer. The person to really be upset with is the fantasy peddler who told you that a kitchen remodel would only be 3 weeks. 3-6 months is more like it. He set some pretty unrealistic expectations for you.

Nope, it would have been that timeframe if everything had been is as I was promised. To just not make items that were ordered or not send them is crappy business on the part of the company and their lack of communication or follow through on promises made when they screw up is unacceptable.

Seriously, every cabinet company industry-wide has minimum 3 months lead times. Most are 4-6 months. You are not understanding the reality of the shortages of both materials and manpower that have been ongoing for many months. I’d say you were very lucky to get your cabinets in the timeframe you did.

When you say ”To just not make items that were ordered” - what are they supposed to do - wave a magic wand and make appear out of thin air the wood, glue, finishes, etc. plus the manpower to put them together? I do agree with you that they should have communicated better. From their point of view they were probably thinking they got you your cabinets faster than for their other customers.

You think you waited a long time - a friend of mine has an 8-month wait for a sofa. It seems the foams needed for the sofa, and the glues for the frame joinery are impossible to get.

Nothing ever goes "as promised " with construction. That is just how it is. You have to be flexible, it's the name of the game...especially in 2020-2021.

Again, they just plain did not make a base cabinet that was ordered in April. It wasn’t a lack of glue or wood they just screwed up and didn’t make it and shipped most of the rest of the order not even everything. I was being very flexible in starting the project but when I was told my order would be delivered, we moved forward with demo. If they are going to acknowledge an error and then promise a two week turnaround on a missing base cabinet then follow through on it. Don’t over promise and under deliver again and then not even be able to provide any status update as to where the cabinet even is when you fail to meet your promises. That is bad business plain and simple. Just trying to share my experience so others are aware of what this particular company is experiencing and how the customer service is responding or more accurately not responding.

Youre not getting it. Your experience is not at all unique in the industry as a whole at the moment. It isn’t targeted especially to you, and another brand could have done the same thing.

No one is saying to not be unhappy about it. Just don’t make a public spectacle of yourself with your privilege showing here. You'll regret that embarrassment when your emotions calm down.

I ordered my cabinets in June, they were supposed to arrive in September. Now I am told early November. We had a house fire and they basically shelled the inside of our home. A 6 month time frame for repairs has now become 7+ months because of numerous back orders and supply issues. Had to order windows 3 times before we could get some that were available in a reasonable time frame. Baseboard is split in many places, but that was all that was available. The bad places will just have to be cut out, so there will be many seams. The stone I picked for my fireplace is no longer available because the quarry went out of business due to Covid shut downs. The list just goes on and on.

Did you happen to see the factory order acknowledgment? I bet the missing cabinet was due to order error by the dealership or order entry error by Starmark. If the item was backordered, it's probably because it didn't meet quality control inspection. You should be happy that they pulled it off the line instead of shipping you a cabinet with an issue. Whatever the case, everyone above is right. ALL cabinet manufacturers are having issues right now.

Please be patient with your salesperson/dealer. Our business has doubled to almost tripled during this pandemic. We're all exhausted and things slip thru the cracks sometimes. There is so much detail in a kitchen order. We're only human.

DId you ever get your cabinet???

Not yet, supposedly tomorrow. Eight weeks for a “rush order” after they realized it was never made. I would hate to be starting a kitchen now. They are apparently running 6-8 mths now for new orders.

I still bet order error by dealer, not Starmarks fault. If it was on the factory acknowledgment, it'd be really hard to miss making it....it's so automated.

Some companies have put a halt to all RUSH ORDERS. Can you imagine? Waiting 3-6 months for an error or damaged cabinet?

I hope your cabinet comes in perfect!

If a cabinet is damaged, missing, or not as ordered, a replacement is supposed to be given priority over new orders.

8 weeks for a rush IS a rush right now. The industry, as a whole, is averaging around 24 weeks lead time at the moment. Just shy of 6 months. The higher end the line, the longer the wait. Even all of the flat pack imports are averaging 8 weeks, rather than 2, because their stuff is stuck on those container ships that there isn’t enough labor to unload, or enough drivers to transport if they do get it unloaded.

Jen- I also ordered starmark in late April/early May and delivery is FINALLY happening next week ( was supposed to be sept 6). Just got notified the shipment is short 3 cabinets which are the large pantry floor to ceiling cabinets that are backordered. They did not even give me a time when those would come so an entire wall of cabinetry which is the fridge wall now cannot be installed. Praying the cabinets coming next week are correct / undamaged.

Sometimes the shortages are caused by things such as the glue used in construction is unavailable due to a shortage of the bottles that the glue comes in, not the actual glue.

I ordered in February 2021. They shipped in June with all sorts of problems. Missing pieces, cracked fronts, one cabinet section was two-toned and various scratches. Dealership isn’t without fault either with wrong measurements and inferior craftsmanship trying to install. It’s a never ending nightmare right now. If you need cabinets, find a local cabinet maker and go from there. Might cost more but it will get done right …and probably faster.

Who is helping with your starmark quality issues? The company or the dealer? Our dealer does not respond to us. He made several measurement mistakes. Now that we have the cabinets, many have scratches and chips and a frame is cracked. We are left wondering who is actually rectifying this? Emailed starmark who said they would reach out to our dealer which gives us no assurance this will be fixed.

WE are having issues too. Middle of reno and still missing pieces, wrong stain on some. Starmark won't answer anything b/c we are not the "dealer" Anyone have a good contact number for them?

If your dealer won't assist....then find out who the regional rep is.

If this is not a warranty or backorder issue...but more of a design or ordering mistake issue, then the rep or Starmark probably won't help that much. You may need to work it out on your own and find a sympathetic dealer willing to help. Sometimes dealers are uneasy about that...because 'there are two sides to every story' and they don't want to get in the middle. I recently ordered a replacement drawer front for someone on the East coast. The dealer went out of business. Or quite possibly they had a falling out during the remodel? Who knows. But I helped her with a drawer head. Took up a lot of my time, but I felt bad for her.

I believe that if dealers won't assist their customers, then these manufacturers need to drop them!!! It's not right. If they won't do that....then they need to have in-house customer service take care of the clients the dealer isn't helping.
