They are experts at low-water gardening. Order a catalog to get some inspiration. Even in the dry west, landscapers are pretty clueless. I’m a certified Master Gardener so I plan my own beds out and then find someone skilled at bed prep and then I teach them how everything needs to be planted.

You can also contact your County Extension office for assistance and perhaps even referrals. They offer free advice and free classes and are in the know.

You are wise to start converting now as your plants (which will need some watering for initial growth) will be mature when cities start aggressive water conservation ordinances. I live in Reno - a high desert and we’re behind conservation efforts like those in Vegas. I started water savings efforts to save on my $300 a month spring summer water bill. And drought-tolerant doesn't mean brown or ugly. Good luck.
