Large cottonwood-smaller dead branches, less leaves

I have a large cottonwood in my backyard. it has a few dead smaller limbs ( i had a larger dead branch trimmed 2 years ago) and i noticed it doesnt have as many leaves as my neighbors neighbor’s cottonwood. i also see occasional large chunks of bark near it. my tree is on the left. You can see how feed fewer leaves it has.
