My vines do it.. but its a running giant bamboo that I didn't plant lol. I have a bunch of Pink Jasmine climbing them and some passifloras. They like to climb the living bamboo better, I think, because there are little branches to help support their weight without slipping down a smooth piece of dead bamboo.

I used to grow mandevillea and passiflora up non-living bamboo stakes. I would have to put a few pieces of electrical tape here and there to keep them from slipping sometimes.

Depends on the vine. An aggressive vine will climb all over the bamboo, kill off foliage over time, and look like a mess. And when you try to remove the vines, especially parts that have died, it takes a lot of fooling around to clip and unwind the vines without damaging small bamboo branches and foliage, particularly as some types of vines become woody. I would say ok with the passiflora because it would be easier to control, and not a good idea with the jasmine.
