Hang a canopy from the roof, it will cover that area. You can also put twinkle light on there, my daughter loves hers!

in the same vein as tozmo's idea, I might just build the wall out the whole width of the bed (wider, actually, in case she gets a wider bed some day). Or maybe something like one of these:

Center the bed on the column. It is difficult to make a bed up against a wall.

Why jam the bed right against the window wall? You could also place the bed under the window.

The room would look better if the bed were not squashed against the window wall. Center the bed with the column and hang some art pieces above the bed.

Can you take a photo of the whole bed wall?

Would center the bed with the vertical pillar and add a floor lamp. You could add a narrow table and lamp between bed and exterior wall and bed -- matching ones on each side if that is in the budget -- or a lamp table combination unit -- making sure the unit is sturdy and well balanced.

Alternately, adding that second vertical as tozmo1 suggested would work.

Another idea: if you were inclined to remove the headboard, you could use the window as the visual "headboard" .

Consider cornering the bed. Easier for you to get around and make it up. That headboard is very masculine and modern. I would remove it. Perhaps make a second faux "column" and place the bed between them with a fun mural on the wall between as well. This is a bit fancier than you'd want, but you get the idea.

Why not flip things on opposite walls? Then the bed has a flat wall, and the other pieces can go around the column.

The room also needs a pretty rug to warm things up.
