Mantel vs Mantle

Not trying to be the language police as I had a hard time remembering until someone told me….

a manTEL is a shelf on a fireplace that you can put your TELevision on.

a manTLE is a cloak.

i found this helpful hope others do also.

    Nice trick!

Sometimes I like to dry my mantle by draping it over the mantel.

Nice trick, indeed, except when you've been indoctrinated by the Houzz design police to ban the very idea of a television over a fireplace. :P

As long as you don't follow the advice, the trick works! LOL.

Another one: there is "a RAT" in "separate."

We should start a thread on "Houzz creeds."

First: no televisions over the fireplace!

Second: Make sure the shower/tub is properly waterproofed and GET PICTURES of the renovation along the way!

    Third: ?

    Third: ?

Downspouts should always be painted the same color as the siding/brick/stucco/stone

@Anna Devane....I've sometimes thought about posting the "shelf vs cloak" issue with the spellings. It seems "mantle" is what's used here more often. I used to get them confused, too. Years ago someone mentioned manTELs used to be a common spot for TELephones, so that cleared it for me. LOL, not many TELephones on manTELs these days!

Petula i think people have a hard time figuring out where to place a ”scone” on a wall especially when the wall has beaded ”wayne’s coating”

I'd center it above the Chester Drawers.

The scones are probably in the dinning room.

You need to loose the extra "N" in dinning room. Your playing fast n lose with your spelling.

I think the scones on the dinning room wall should be rod iron and there should be a pop of color. Maybe on the two accent walls? Thinking the finish should be mat.

I have solved the mantel issue. I don't have one. And, come to think of it, I don't think my supply of jackets qualify as mantles either. No scones and no dinning room. And I have no idea whether my lights are 4000 whatever.

How could I forget the shudders? You know, the vinyl ones nailed to the house?
