Never heard of the Naked system before, but from the brief homepage it sounds akin to adding a water softener (use minerals or in this case metals to alter the water chemistry). Long story short every pool is a chlorine pool. Its the only thing humans have come up with to combat the algae that forms otherwise in fresh water. I just came from a pool consult and their methodolgy is to use the minimum chlorine possible for a private pool (even letting it start to form algae rather than over-chlorinate). I went in convinced I wanted a salt water pool and have been convinced to go with UV filtration with a mineral cartridge. It reduces chlorine tab consumption, mineral cartridge is replaced annually (under $150) and UV lights have 2-3yr lifespan at cost of $200-300. This probably didnt help your decision making process, but its worth knowing what is out there…and try to find a reputable pool builder to bounce your question off of because they see all the pros/cons and can guide you best. (edit: disregard last part as you mentioned using builder now…sorry cant be of greater benefit to comment on your options)

We use salt water systems for primary sanitization along with Del's AOP systems using UV and Ozone as a supplement.

We have great success with this set up as it allows chlorine levels to be kept around .5 PPM as opposed to the traditional 1.5-2.0 ppm range.

I looked into mineral systems about 30 years ago and I'm still not on board with that method.

My preference is to keep the minimum chem treatment but not sacrifice bather quality and sanitation. Keep it simple.

Many have tried to get away from chlorine altogether but it is the best sanitizer to kill bacteria. Ozone and UV are more powerful, but it cannot do it alone.

I am not familiar with the XLM or Naked system.
