In a Blind Bind!

We are looking to add some top-down bottom-up shades in order to let light in, but block out some visual stimuli for our dogs. I'm looking at cellular shades and Roman shades. Which do you prefer? Function and style are important to us. I'm going for an overall timeless design, but do find myself leaning towards some rustic and farmhouse touches (after all, we do live in the country!) Attached is a pic of one of the rooms where we would be adding blinds.

I hate to say but the dogs will destroy any blind you put there unless they are really tiny dogs. My golden lasted 2 days with blinds blocking her view and then good bye blinds.

Would you consider wooden interior shutters? Just for the lower half of the windows.

If you did a heavy roman shade in a dense fabric the dogs might not destroy them, but a cellular shade would get ruined very quickly, I think. I agree with the shutter suggestion.

You could also try window film on the bottom of the windows. Nothing for them to destroy, but can effectively block their view.

I have top down/bottom up woven shades on my front windows that go down to the floor almost. And two 50lb dogs
Normally I leave the bottom 12-18” open for them to look out, but sometimes close them all. They haven’t damaged the shades or tried to chew them or anything, but they do stick their head behind them so the can still see out the window and bark when they are closed.

Our neighbors had new blinds installed several years ago and within two days their dog climbed on the couch and chewed one half off.

Just depends on your dog and also are they home alone free range or is a person around when the dogs are out of a crate.

just from the looks point of view, I'd lean accordian rather than roman because you already have material drapes. if this was going to be the only window dressing, I'd say roman with some interesting fabric...

Thank you for all the considerations! It is much appreciated! Thankfully the dogs have not had any problems with the curtains so far. In fact, the curtains block out the view perfectly, but then we are limiting all of our light during the day. I like the idea of testing out an option in one room first.

@Sarah, I would be open to the idea of wooden shutters. Would you recommend white or wood stained? We do have stained windows and window trim. Our baseboards are painted white throughout.

Before I purchased my woven shades for the whole house, I ordered one for a tiny window in a half bath to see how I liked the quality, color, etc. I ended up going with a different selection and moved that shade into the laundry room.

So for like $50 it was worth it to see and use a functional piece in person.

Also, if you order from an online store like blinds.com, blindsgalore.com, etc make you sure you wait for a 50% off sale.

Since you already have fabric drapes, the accordion style shades might work best here unless you want to try to install wooden shudders.
