Nilima, you may get some more suggestions if you elaborate on your search beyond capacity. You may want to add what you are currently using and what your experience with past machines is, and if you have a preference such as front load, HE top load, traditional top load and so forth.

Hi armjim - Thank you for your response. We are looking for Front load. We were renters up until now and in our apartment, we were using GE washer and dryer. I was looking into GE ultrafresh vent system - liked the fact that it helps with mold situation but there are also reviews about it shaking while spinning etc. Also checked LG WM3900/4000HWA at Costco. Overall, it looks good but I am not sure about reliability for both of these and hence looking for inputs here.

I do not want to go with Samsung.

For front loaders, I consistently recommend to get an LG model with Turbo Wash (faster wash, plus the jets really help enhance cleaning and rinsing) and steam (so you get an onboard heater). The model number changes (I think the 3900 might be a 4500 now?). I had a 3700 model with those features for 6.5 trouble-free years before moving out of that house; my friend has had one for 11, another friend for 7, and another for 8. Anecdotal, yes, but positive. The new place I moved into has a brand new Whirlpool front loader and I definitely miss my LG. The LG was quieter, had an onboard heater, seemed better built re: squeaks and rattles, and clothes came out cleaner. The spring magnet on the LG door is also nice, keeping the door cracked open but in place.

@Nilima Rodrigues I think Costco may have better warranty coverage, especially if you use their credit card, but you'd have to fact-check that. I got mine through Home Depot back in the day. Wasn't impressed with their installation team.

Consumer Reports is an excellent resource but not the “Bible” for many types of products. Review other reliable sites such as The Spruce, Good Housekeeping, CNET and Amazon (good and bad reviews). You’ll find consumer reviews to be all over the board in quality be sure to read negative reviews for product issue patterns.

I, personally, would never trust consumer reports. They are biased to whomever pays for product placements. They rarely pick the reliable brands that last over time. Longevity to them is 3-5 years.

As to ”My washer lasted xxx years” that means nothing without context. Was the washer doing six loads a day or six a week?

If a manufacturer doesnt tell you how long their appliance is designed to last then that should tell you something about how strongly the company feels their product is built. as far as I know Miele is the only company to guarabtee 10000 operating hours for their residential appliances. They even build in hour meters to know how much use the applaince has seen.

Answer the above wuestions and then look for appliances that meet your requirements.

Otherwise the question is like asking ”whats the best car” or ”whats the best clothing manufacturer”.

Consumer Reports is never paid for product placement. That said, I don’t always agree with their appliance reviews. And they have been slow to embrace change, like the movement toward induction stoves.

OP, after extensive research, I recently purchased a Maytag front loader set, the 4.5 washer with an onboard heater for a true sanitize cycle. I run my washer hard. I am very picky about my laundry and my machines. And after two months, I couldn’t be more pleased with the performance. I feel like I will get many years of use from them. Both washer and dryer are fast and remarkably quiet. The GE was my second choice had I been unable to get the Maytags.

FYI, I did have to sit on the waiting list for a good while at my local appliance store, as these machines are in high demand.

Go for an LG - their front load washers and dryers are consistently at or near the top of most efficient and good value. I replaced my first LG pair after about 11 years, and now have another pair.

MOST cars come with a 3 year/36k mile warranty too. Would you be happy if they died right out of warranty or would you hope the manufacturer tested them and built tgem to last far longer?

You have a very long history on this forum of pointing people to a paid website (consumer reports) that does NOT routinely test many of the best products in the industry simply based on yheir bias towards price or no payment for inclusion in their reviews. (Donated appliances)

When someone comes here and asks for opinions, why not provide one instead of sending people elsewhere.

Im not making anythingbip regarding Miele. Many Many review sites state Miele is number 1 for reliability. The length of warrabty does not a more or less reliable appliance make.

Additional warranty is purchasable if desired, up to a total of five years, directly from Miele. No other conpany offers that option to purchase the extended warranty from and have it serviced by the manufacturer.

in other parts of the world, Miele offers 10 year warranties. Other manufacturers do not.

One can buy a 5-year extended warranty for most any washer.

A warranty allegedly offered where you do not live is irrelevant. This document lists the warranty for Brazil, Mexico, Canada, USA, Australia, and New Zealand. No 10-year warranty is offered in any of these places.

What is common among all of these reviews? Miele has the best build quality, the best longevity and the current best appliance technology to care for textiles.

Miele’s reputation has been earned for over 120 years. They are family owned so dont need to answer to stock holders for the best return (read lower quality products at higher prices).

If you want more links that prove miele is the best for front load washer and dryers, they can be provided.

MizLizzie..I went with Consumer Report's top electric range 10 years back ended up with ABSOLUTE JUNK!! Maybe CR is better now but the comment on usage (wear and tear) is really a good point.
