Wrong time of year. You need to take either softwood cuttings (in spring) or semi-ripe wood cuttings (midsummer), dip tip in rooting hormone and then place into a potting mix. No water rooting! Keep warm and adequately moist and they should root in about 6 weeks.

it was a very fascinating browse for me.. yet so far over my head ... it was hard to take it all in ... lol ... i used to for indoor propagation of conifers in winter under lights ... gave me some ideas on how to succeed ... but note... that is when you take conifer cuttings ... not most shrubs.. what gal said on that ...

all that said.. if you have a big bush.. try it... you never know ... even if you fail.. you will learn something ...
