I am installing outdoor kitchen with built in grill. Is there a refrigerator that is durable for homes on the ocean?

Greetings, and thank you for the question. Yes, there are definitely outdoor rated refrigerators and they are worth the investment. Here in Florida we have real issues with the humidity in the summer. The environment is pretty tough on any outdoor product. As you know, combine that with a salt environment and you can have a serious durability problem.

As far as selection there are many options for these outdoor rated units. They can run from near $1000 to over $4,000 for an under-counter unit. Sometimes you get what you pay for and in this case, certainly paying for the outdoor rating is well worth it.

On this project we used Uline's 24" Stainless Steel under-counter unit. They also make a marine version in 110 volts if you are truly on the water.

    I hope this helps.

To be a UL rated Refrigerator it simply refers to the unit being a self grounded unit. If you install a non outdoor rated unit in an island with proper ventilation it will last just as long and save you over a thousand dollars. Outdoor rated will wear out just as fast a $300 unit if the island is made without proper ventilation. Ventilation is the key factor to a long life of the island and equipment.
