Don’t bother is my advice. Schefflera roots easily without help. If you go ahead with the powder make the soil throughly moist before inserting the cuttings. You won’t need to water again for a while.

I don't own any of that stuff and agree, Schefflera propagates very easily without it. When the soil dries, that's when more water is needed. Water very gently so the force of gushing water doesn't compact the soil, and add enough water so that all of the soil gets moistened.

Thank you floral_uk and Tiffany. I had several cuttings but one in particular was having trouble growing roots so I thought I would try with the powder. Nowhere that I could find online mentioned if/when/how often you water after popping it in soil.

You water in the same way as you would if you weren't using rooting powder. Just make sure your medium is moist before you begin, and by the time they need watering the rooting powder will have already done it's job. And it does not just wash away easily if it's surrounded by medium.

I do use rooting powder, even on the easy cuttings. I use stuff that is hormone which helps with the root formation, and also has anti-fungal which can help with any potental fungus and mold issues. It's like plant insurance.

I view it as akin to if I cut myself- sure it can heal if I put just a bandage on it, but if I use ointment it improves the healing factor and reduces problems like infections. A cutting can heal if it's just in medium, but if I use rooting powder it can improve the healing factor and reduces problems like fungus/mold.
