Not only can it be repaired,any painter worth their white painter's uniform should have done it when it was painted. With that kind of workmanship and the fact you didn't see it earlier,who can say they didn't damage the door?

Thank you for your reply. The door hasn’t been painted yet. It’s only been installed. If this can be repaired, what about the other defect? Would you please take a look at the other picture? Can the large lump in the door be sanded and primed to be painted smooth? I just worry that because the core of the door is so fibrous, that it would absorb regular primer and paint and not look smooth. Hopefully that isn’t the case.

Honestly Allison,if I can't tell when something has paint I'm not qulified to give advice and if you weren't able to see that at first glance,you need something other than advice anyhow.

Why not talk to your painter and ask for advice?

Get the company to replace this slab in addition to the other doors. Simple.

I would see if your painter can fix it, or your finish carpenter. Unfortunately this will probably not be the last ding some of your doors will get.

The company may replace the slab for free, but the problem is that the contractor should not necessarily be expected to prep and hang the new slab for free. And that can be harder than installing a pre-hung door for some contractors.

It takes 5 minutes to re hang a pre hung door. Most painters remove the slab and the hinges to paint the door. Damaged doors are replaced all the time, it's a lot faster than repairing the damage.

Friend you can make a killing replacing doors around multi-family communities. After meth induced weekends a large appartment house has at least 3 doors kicked in. The going price for labor to replace them is $350 each. Do the math.

...but you keep trying despite the fact that don't understand the OP's situation. If this was my job all I'd have to do is make a phone call to my supplier and in a week or two there would be a new door hanging in the opening (factory primed, not painted).

The issue with the vendor I have used for doors is they either provided a prehung door with all the prep or a slab with No prep, not a prepped slab. So if they are sending out a new slab someone has to do the hinge mortises and knobset prep on site. That doesn't take five minutes.

You might want to take 5 minutes and find a new supplier. All the OP has to do is reach out to their supplier and request/order a new prepped door. They're already sending 14, what's another one. Unless their supplier is Homer Depot....

Whatever, the two suppliers I have used most make fully customizable doors or replicate historic doors. If they sell it with the jamb, they prep it. If they sell a slab only they want it prepped onsite because an installed jamb is a preexisting condition and the fit may not be perfect. It's not because they are lazy or cheap.
