Do you have a recessed can light directly above the sink?

That is actually another question we are trying to figure out. There are some above the back cabinets. and I was wondering if we should put some in between the island and the back wall/cabinets/cooktop or put some over the sink.

You will never complain about having too much light over a work surface! Put a spot light or brighter light directly over the sink & on its own switch so it is independent of the main kitchen lighting. Make sure you have under cabinet lighting too. As for island, my 2 pendants are a little more than half way towards the seating side & I do have a spotlight over sink. My island is angled & 10’ from seating side outside corner to corner. Pendant bottoms are 33”+ off the counter top. I think you want to make sure a person standing on sink side doesn’t have line of vision blocked by hanging light so adjustments can be made for very tall folks.

ETA I meant halfway towards seating side width wise. Because my island has 2 angles, one each side & unequal in size, my pendants are spaced an equal distance from each side of back sink edge. Four counter stools each have enough light, none having a light directly in front of it. Sounds like my lights are smaller than yours. You may just space yours equally from each end so they have that same space between them
