Are you much for accent wall of distressed wood [or wood look-alike]? can have bits of blue sometimes in it. There are a few doors / a window to consider with any wall changes: to medium or dark color...? ... but the 10' wall seems a place to consider.

I was thinking the same thing. One of those dark trendy Farrow & Ball paint colors for everything (walls, ceiling, doors, trim, stairwell) and horizontal wood paneling on the long wall, stained dark. Do you think that's too monochromatic? Would some contrast look better?

They say that horizontal direction lengthens the longest wall a bit, visually....

I wouldn't paint a deep color on everything in your room. Here's a 'moody' Plum Brown - wrong one, cause so much white... oh well, it's late...

I would start by picking a patterned area rug and THEN deciding on a paint color.

Your floor is light? these walls would be too dark?

Hard to image this fairly narrow open space as a guest room (a queen bed is 6 ft 8 inches long). Consider a convertable couch/bed to allow for more floor space and it can then also double time as sitting area.

I would keep the white walls and just create an interesting focal wall. Once you add a rug and furniture, it will feel cozy without feeling cave like. I‘d create a calm, relaxing space and color can be injected with art and accessories.

A slatted wood wall would add warmth and soft lighting will be important as well.

I love rooms like this where we can be brave. The world is your oyster. What colors do you love? Is there some color that just makes your heart sing? You can either paint the room that color or a muted shade of that color or a color that coordinates with that color and use the color as your main décor color.

There is just the one window and probably some scattered light from the window in the other room. Not that bright. But the rest of the house is bright and open so I'm not afraid to make one room theatre-like.

Yes indeed I will have a narrow sofa that will double as a narrow twin guest bed. I already built a custom wood frame for it and intend to sew a slip cover out of some dark upholstery fabric.

For this room I don't mind if it feels cave-like. I think I almost prefer it. There is a proper living room upstairs that I intend to leave bright white.

Using all your input I created a moodboard which I'll share here.

Following a 60-30-10 rule, 60% Farrow & Ball Railings/black, 30% gray, 10% green/wood/plants. I added in some neon signs just to see what that would look like. Indirect warm lamp light for lighting. Will avoid using the overhead lights.

I intend to paint the ceiling, trim, doors, stairwell, risers, etc, in Railings. Anyone feel extremely strongly against that? I feel like leaving the white would be purposeless for what I'm going for.

Missing from this photo is window treatment. I was thinking a sheer flow white/gray curtain.

The image above shows 2 wood panel styles, ebony and dark stain. I think I prefer the dark stain. Any thoughts on that?

Its a good idea to let fabrics/textiles set the tone for paint selection. Your upholstered items, rugs, bedding will be set in stone, but paint can be custom blended to work with them. Choose furnishings first so you know what the inflexible items are.

From your board - glad the chair has sheen. I think you'll need lighting scattered around.

Because there is no ventilation in the basement, light colors such as white, cream, yellow, and other light colors would be preferable. The basement will glow and appear to be a typical view.

Isn't it said that rooms used mostly at night have a nice vibe if gem-rich, or dark? But there oughta be good lighting.
