please help me decide on appropriate size

I want to buy artificial trees for the dark corners of my dining room (cat will eat live trees) and use up lights behind them. Dimensions are given in pictures. With 10 foot ceilings and about 36” between rug and walls, I THINK 7’ x 30” would be nice. Any other ideas though?

Also, thinking of getting different lamps for buffet, the lamps are 36” and shades are 10Hx9D. Is the scale pretty good here? I have a few other Uttermost lamps picked out that might work too.

those lamps are good you wont really increase light output unless you go to 100 w socket.

Are you asking me not to buy the artificial trees or not to change the lamps. I not opposed to the type of lighting in there (recessed, curio cabinet, overhead large fixture and buffet lamps), but I was just wondering if I could have made a better selection?

I am saying dont up light fake plants, first attempt to correct the lighting issue by changing the light bulbs n your recessed lights. I could see adding one fake tree here just for show, not to "add light"

Agreed! I just want some soft light in the evening, we seldom use the room so don’t often need the overheads on, but in the evening when I walk through the house, I’d like a little light. Then I wouldn’t feel like I was walking past a “cave”. Do you have a recommendation for What size plant would be appropriate given the size of the space and 10’ ceiling height?

Put the buffet lights on timers. Or even just one. That's what I did in my DR (only 1 lamp) and there is enough light so it's not like a cave

That is what I’ve been doing. I feel like I need something in those corners though…my thought is that plants would be nice. I’m getting the feeling that is not a popular idea :)

Artificial plants are not well liked on this site lol

No to artificial plants in the corner. Dust and insect collectors. The cats may bother them, too. Some cats will mark them.

Place two of your chairs on each side of the curio cabinet and find some art work or sconces to frame the sides of the cabinet. Unless you are using the table, too many chairs will make it look crowded. Your curio cabinet is too small for the space, so putting the chairs on each side would help fill up the void.

Move the lanterns to each side of the window. They would look better if you acquired a small stand to elevate them off the floor. Or, find another place for them in the house.

Your flower arrangement is lovely. But, it is too tall for a dining table. You already have two tall lights on the buffet. Adding the floral arrangements would not work because they are tall, too. What you have on the buffet looks very nice.

For additional lighting, you could add a small up light fixture that can't be seen on the curio cabinet. You can add a timer to it.

Thank you everyone for your opinions. I’m seriously stuck. I’ll live with nothing in the corners for a bit longer. I realize my curio cabinet is too small, so I’ll try the chair idea and move the lanterns to another spot. If I take the leap of faith and buy trees (going against most everyone’s judgement) I’ll post a followup photo Thanks again for your honest thoughts.
