IMO you never order a sofa without sitting on it. Ikea has many price points geared to what a customer is looking for like college low price or home where it needs to last .THis is a upgrade from the old Ektorp which BTW was a not bad for the money sofa . %These upgrades are apparently all god but honestly I would never buy a sofa online inless it was strictly for how it looked .

Thank you for your responses. I totally agree. Unfortunately, the closest Ikea is 3.5 hours away. And online, it states that the couch is out of stock at that location. But maybe they still have a store display? I know I want a slipcovered look and I know the dimensions that will work for my space. I have looked at Rowe, Pottery Barn, and the Cindy Crawford slipcovered couch that is at Rooms to Go. Was hoping someone could give some feedback as to how the Uppland compares.

It's $450. You get pocketed coil seat cushions. That's not happening anywhere else at double the price. Order it for pickup. Ikea has a great return policy. And it's slipcovered. Total win. Sofa link. Its a newish product so stock should come in. My store has stock. Even with no stock there may be a display. Get the chaise version for $650. Add an ottoman and you can push it in for added family lounging for movie time.

There a reason its out of stock in the chaise version. Its selling.

I have never found an Ikea sofa that I like. I had the Ektorp, which this sofa replaced, and I wasn't a fan of the way it sat. This is supposed to be a bit more comfortable and certainly the price is good, but I have personally given up on Ikea sofas.

Undeniably, I think IKEA products are more suitable for young people with simple design. Of course, IKEA's sofa, the price range is large, and the same style are equipped with different configurations. Buy any large piece of furniture, it is best to go to a few more stores to try them out on the spot. Only then will you not feel regret after buying.

In terms of quality, I have never had a problem with IKEA furniture (as long as I follow the assembly instructions). And they do have a good returns policy. However, as others have said, their products do cover quite a range of prices (and therefore qualities). Living within an hour of two stores means I can usually check out the products before I buy. If you order unseen, then you do need to be prepared to go through the returns process if it is not what you want.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the Uppland has quite a deep seat from front to back. Not everyone likes that, especially if their feet can't touch the floor when they are resting against the back. It is deeper than the Ektorp, so you would need to find someone or some store with the new model if you want to test it. If your nearest store has other Uppland products in stock, that would probably be enough for you to be able to get a feel for the quality/comfort.

I gave my Ektorp chaise sofa & 2 ottomans to my daughter for her first college apartment before I realized it was replaced with the Uppland. It was too late, so I had no choice but to roll the dice. Big. Mistake. My daughter and I spent many nights sleeping on that Ektorp when we watched movies over the years. It was so wonderfully comfortable and I love the fact that you can just take the twill cover off and throw it in the washer. The Uppland, while more sturdy, has TERRIBLE covers. Ikea calls them more responsible because they are recycled fabric, but they are just uncomfortable and cheap. I recently bought the twill cover - but it’s white. It took a year to get the chaise & 2 ottoman covers together because of the difficulty with getting anything these days. Who knows if or when I can get another whole set. It’s the only fabric they have that isn’t the horrible cheap, scratchy material. The only upgrade I happen to like is that the ottoman covers are Velcro instead of zippered. It’s much easier to change. If I could steal my Ektorp back from my daughter, I would.

I have had the Ikea Uppland sectional, armchair and two ottomans since September. We are very happy with the comfort, style and how the pieces fit in our living room. We have the beige (can't remember the name, not the cheapest beige though) slipcovers. We immediately ordered navy blue slipcovers from Comfort Works and they are really nice. HOWEVER, we have two mini schnauzers (non shedding) and keeping the slipcovers clean (dirt, mud, dust, lint) is IMPOSSIBLE. We have a nice grassy yard, wipe their feet, have doormats, etc., they are bathed and brushed regularly and it is still IMPOSSIBLE. I have to use a lint brush on the sofas almost daily, and the slipcovers need to be washed every one to two weeks. That's not happening, so I purchased navy blue fleece blankets and we have one all the seat cushions and ottomans (folded nicely). We've had an Ektorp loveseat in our bonus room for years, so I did have experience in slipcovered sofas. BUT, the whole process of washing the slipcovers is a TON OF WORK (to me).

Just a cautionary tale if you have pets. We will probably be moving in the next year or so and will return to leather sofas.

We bought an Uppland corner sectional and are liking it a lot. The cushions are still a bit hard, but I'm assuming they'll soften like the ones in the store.

I have a question, though. We want to but custom slip covers on Ebay, but the seamstress (in Hongkong) said there are different dimensions for the Uppland in other parts of the world than for the one in the United States. (I'm not talking about metric vs. inches.) Is that true? Or do you think she means the Ektorp? I called Ikea customer service, but they didn't know, oddly.

I bought the Uppland sofa in Hallarp Beige in July 2021, specifically because the covers were washable and the sofa overall was more affordable than Pottery Barn. With 2 kids under 5, washable and affordable were key. This sofa did not disappont! From sick kids camping out on the sofa, potty accidents, snacking, etc - the sofa has taken a lot of abuse in 8 months and has held up incredibly well. Great investment at such a good price point. You can even buy more covers as a back up for inevitable accidents, at a fair price too! Can’t say that with PB.

The Uppland was made with deeper cushions and taller backs than the Ektorp, so Ektorp cushion covers definitely won’t fit - theyd be too small.

I think they are a warmer white. Not cream but defiantly not bright white.

I could never buy a sofa without sitting on it as I need seats that are not deep as I am very petite.

We have had four Ikea Ektorp sofas in our home for 10 years: 2 in our great room, 1 in our walk-out basement main room, and one in our TV/game room above the garage. We have different slipcovers in each room. I use seasonal throw pillows on all the sofas, ranging from Pottery Barn to TJMaxx pricing. The sofas look great, are very comfortable and a great value, and the slipcovers have not worn out at all. I can’t speak for the Uppland, but I wouldn’t trade my Ektorps for anything more expensive.

My husband and I live in the suburbs and rarely go to the city. 2 years ago, we purchased a Uppland corner sofa in an Ikea store for a promotion. Firstly, I confirm the practicality and durability, as we were told in the store. I took the pillowcases off the pillows and washed them; the color did not change, and the fabric did not fade. When guests arrive, it quickly turns into a large bed, and there is a place to store sleeping accessories on the side. Next year we plan to make repairs in the guest room, so we are already looking at the Sofa in a box. Do you think of buying another Ikea sofa or another company?

Every sofa should be taken for a test sit before purchase.

Mine has held up well for the last year, really glad I got the white twill covers (2 sets). As previously mentioned, IKEA’s marketing spin for ”crappy recycled shopping bag material” is nothing you want on a couch. I keep that slipcover for emergencies only🙄

that after being put in the dryer a few times, they will snug up.

We love the Uppland sofa and bought another. We have a large family of kids and grandkids. We also have two dogs. We bought multiple covers and its fun to switch up. We bought the cotton covers. My husband is six foot one and he loves the depth compared to other couches. A great napping couch.

Is there a smell to the sofa?

I love our Uppland sofa and loveseat! I struggled with purchasing them because of the mixed reviews and we didn't have an IKEA near by so that we could test them out; however, the Uppland sofa and loveseat are very comfortable - firm enough that you don't "fall" into the cracks (like I did with our previous sofa that cost twice as much), but not too firm that it feels rock hard. I love the look, too. I highly recommend these sofas. I've included pics, but I do have blankets over the seating area, as you can see in the pics, to lessen the amount of washing I have to do, so I don't wear the covers out as quickly.

I have bought from ikea for some small things like kitchen storage, etc., but was always concerned about their upholstery and case goods.

Apparently the uppland was billed as an upgrade from the Ektorp, but customer reviews have indicated it is worse.

I would be reluctant to take a chance on it.

I think the Uppland sofa is great. It's durable as hell. IKEA makes things that last. You can get different covers or have them made. It will last for years. I think it's comfortable.

Purchased Uppland sofa and Armchair in June. Not as comfortable as the floor model in the showroom. The cushions and backrest are too firm for my liking. Perhaps the floor model had been sat in hundreds of times and was well worn in, but I just don't "sink in" to the sofa in the same way. There is very little give at all. For a short sit, no problem. But for lounging?....no....at least not yet!
