The house is so classic. I like the louvered best.

You could do raised panel on the first floor and louvered on the second. Make sure to install them properly with the louver facing Up.

@palimpsest I've never seen shutters installed with louvers facing up. I think you'd want the louvers down to shed the rain away from the house. Maybe I don't understand what you're saying.

Historically accurate shutters will be louver up (unless they are adjustable) when open against the wall, so that they are in the louver down position when closed over the window:

Sure but even if they are not, really there is nothing wrong with them looking like they are. :)

After our original working louver shutters were beyond repair we replaced with raised panel. We are in New England and read that louvers were more often used in the south but up here more protection was needed (although most we see are louvers). I prefer the clean look and am glad we made the change but we did not choose working ones.
