Dining room decor help!

Hello, I appreciate anyones help in guiding me through fixing my dining room decor. Since I have been a widow, I need to change the decorations on the flat surfaces in my dining room. I want it to fit the house style and look masculine still. Any suggestions on what to remove or add would be wonderful. I will not be offended to be instructed to remove everything. I do not want to change wallpaper, rug or chandelier as my late wife just added those and they mean a lot to keep that. Anything else is up for change. Yes, The red table cloth will go (that is my fault)

the room is masculine in some respects already. not sure what you are willing to part with, but I think perhaps pairing down the china, and remove the table cloth. you could also remove the crystals off of the buffet lamps. if there is a leaf in the table you could remove that to create some more space in the room. and if you wanted to open it up, sell off the display cabinet and the china cabinet, just keep the buffet and the table, they fit well with the masculine style and the house.

If you're keeping the wallpaper pick that white cream color or a green for placemats

Do you have any family or friends that would like the pottery or crystal? Maybe it would be a nice remembrance of your late wife--and for you it would streamline the space.

When you mention pottery, is that the vases on the top of cabinet or the apple pottery inside? or all? I could find a home for it... it is hard to get rid of it, but I know I need to.

I’m sorry about your wife, my heart goes out to you. I was widowed, too, and totally understand this situation. Even 10+ years later, it’s tough for me to let things we shared go.

Take your time and don’t do anything you’ll regret or wish you had back. Keep whatever makes you feel closer to her.

I think this is where friends and family members who were/are close to you both could help. Besides emotional support, they could help you physically go through things.

I wish you the best. Your wife certainly had good taste, your home is so warm and lovely. ❤️

Thank you. I know I cant keep everything... even she was planning for a garage sale! Some things like Lamps don't mean much

It's a lovely room, and somewhat Craftsman... a few thoughts: the mtn.landscape could be a lighter look. The pottery would be fab then.

The lampshades that might be black, a lighter color.

Maybe the kind of candelabra - placed in other room?

Idk how long people have hung plates on the wall, but it's still done, and might be a wonderful blend with wallpaper... maybe she chose the dinnerware too? :)

Plates like art - wherever you feel it's good. What about in nearby room where a mirror is... we might like to see that room too.
I once found plate hangers at dollar store.

Maybe you'd like removal of the unit by the door - 3 is alot to have. Maybe the chair in the corner too. Even in a guest room?

When my Mom died, we got rid of the stuff Mom wanted out right away. That's easy. Then there's the stuff you know doesn't have sentimental value or any value for you or your family. That stuff can also go to Goodwill, etc. Don't stress yourself with garage sale unless you are really strapped for cash. Right away the room will start feeling different for you and you can see what you want to do from there. I initially thought the tablecloth was red anyway, so you could go with a solid color tablecloth OR no tablecloth and use a runner and placemats. My Dad uses a tablecloth, easy to clean, just throw in the wash.

There are probably repeat things and things that you just won't use as a single guy, so a lot of that can go. Be kind to yourself, you don't have to throw it all out, find a middle ground. For me, it's better to keep some of my Mom's stuff and use it, than to keep all of it and just have it sitting there, hardly ever even looked at. You'll remember your late wife better if you use her stuff than try to preserve it all untouched. Go slow. You'll find what fits your new life as it evolves. Seek help and support from other widows and widowers!!

I particularly like the one below, I have it in my lake house and I love a masculine look. Blue will work perfectly with the lovely furnishings you have. https://www.amazon.com/Table-Runner-Tartan-Masculine-Peacoquettedesigns/dp/B07DFR3N9L?th=1

I would not remove any of the furnishings. I would probably put dark green leather or fabric on the chair seats and get a more craftsman-type lamp for the sideboard.

You could pare down the Franciscan Ware in the smaller china cupboard or you could give it away or sell it if you wanted to, but I don't consider those dishes feminine in particular.

Actually there is very little I would do to change the room, I like it as it is.
