IMO close in the ceiling then see if you want a accent wall. If this space will have a TV I would suggest you make the TV wall the accent with Besta cabinets from Ikea.

I would accent the solid wall. NOT any walls with doors or window trim. I would go with the lightest material available, it will look darker in your space.

Nielson I was leaning towards the wall with the doors as it has more surface area. Any reason you don't recommend that?

I‘d wait until you have furnished the room and if you do decide on adding, I would place on the long wall where I assume seating will be.

@Maureen interesting. Never thought about that wall. Any rationale behind choosing that over the other 2 walls. My first thought is the expense as that was has more square footage and also wonder if it'll be too busy.

I find when a focal wall is broken up by doors or windows, it can feel a bit patchy.

I could actually see a more modern feel throughout..Furniture, art, lighting will have a major impact, so suggest waiting to decide.

I wouldnt use either the paneling nor the faux brick. It looks good like it is.

You have low 7' ceilings, and lower caused by the duct where the tv will go. With heavy wall texture on the two walls in question the shadows between the joists and the window/door voids might make it appear too busy and the ceiling seem even lower. The smooth walls seem to work well there. Maybe adding some texture to the opposite blank wall might be ok, or just keep texture limited to decor and furniture.

AFAIC, the ceiling is providing all the texture you need. I'd leave as is and rely on 2-3 large artwork pieces.

We wouldn't suggest adding an accent wall until the ceiling is finished. Once that has been finished it might work to do one. Here are a few ideas for you from our designs as well.
