Style was always called a farmhouse when I grew up in the midwest.

It looks like it's already been remodeled a few times. What are your goals for the house?

This is just an "American Vernacular Farmhouse" that has been bastardized in the worst way over the years. The original ornamentation was probably limited to just the porch in Colonial or Georgian Revival, possibly a Queen Anne carryover from the octagonal bumpout. But most likely simple clean detailing.

If you Google image "gable ell farmhouse" you'll probably find some historic examples of what it looked like before the DIY creep. Searching "farmhouse" you'll get inundated with current trends of white board&batten siding, black windows, and greyish metal roofing.

Your house, your choice on remodeling. You might even like the current dental office look.
