The wood is so pretty around the fireplace … what if you left that, and just painted the built-ins? I think it could be a great look — an interesting mix of styles, but preserving that beautiful wood surround.

I truly do not like the wood floor or the w ood bookshelf ir even the sofa. i bought a house kn a lake and already furnished but i truly dislike the bookshelf .
Which app are you using to volor tge bookshelf… i love that and it makes it so much easier ! if i could i would remove the bookshelf nut i can’t for now so my option is to paint it in a color that hoes well with the sofa and white walls and then choose a rug . 😩😩😩😩

I just look up free online collage sites, then find pictures of bookcases/built-ins, and copy and paste onto your picture.

Do you have any inspiration photos? Just curious what styles you like. Since it’s a lakehouse, maybe you were thinking white or something lighter than what I mocked-up?

I think it’s a very pretty room, what do you not like about the floors? What will this room be used for? Are there lake views from it?

not necessarily the floor but the built in bookshelf is dated and i would much prefer modern. yes, lighter colors for sure!
Also the color of the sofa is making it more difficult for me… I am thinking painting the bookshelf white to see if it is less noticeble… like it would blend with walls?

Beautiful wood -you could preserve the wood by whitewashing it or pick a neutral out of your brick and paint it. Your trim is white do you could go that direction , too .

Can you modernize the book shelves? Like remove moulding at top and paint white to match wall? Add some lighting? Then you could do a really light wood tone on the middle piece? I also think furniture placement could be better - like this photo. I also like the rug in this photo too
