I have almost the same bedroom set and it is hard to work with all that brown but I would consider light walls and a light colored rug. I would get one big enough to run under the bed & extend out both sides and bottom although it doesn't need to extend under the night stands it should extend three feet on both sides and foot end of bed.

For some reason a tin ceiling painted white seems like it would go in this room. I couldn't find a photo but this might give you an idea.

I actually like the dusty rose color with the dark furniture... I would change out bedding to more colorful, less bordello, and change the fan out in favor of a pretty chandelier. Then, add something to the window treatment.

Thank you everyone. Very much appreciate the response. I have to say I am drifting towards the grey myself. And I should mention, the furniture doesn't have to stay. It can go in the spare bedroom. I am still stuck for curtain ideas.

I see the throw on the bed and it's a great colour to complement the wood in the room. Green pulls in the greenery outside too. Some suggestions:

If I could offer you 2 other suggestions:

1. Table lamps - consider changing the table lamps to something more substantial that will throw out more light esp when reading in bed. Here are some inexpensive examples.



2. Curtains - I like your sheers but they should be hung wider on a longer rod. if you are interested in alternatives, here are some that will suit:

You are getting some good ideas here. If you keep the furniture, melon shades will brighten and compliment. Benjamin Moore's Melon Popsicle if you want to paint,
or just new curtains to freshen your current colour:

Green would make a nice contrast, would look especially nice in an area rug, and I suggest you look for shades with yellow or aqua undertones, rather than greyer shades, to keep the palette fresh:

I suggest straight drapery panels, rather than sheers, to play up the room's height and provide better balance, and like the choices being shown above.

Hi, if you are getting rid of the furniture you could lighten the look of the room by getting mirrored furniture, ie bedside tables and chest of drawers and painting the walls cream or some pale color

I'd remove some furniture
Paint it white or some cool light color
Paint the walls a lighter color
Paint the molding around the top of the room white
It'll make the dark floors really stand out
Hang the drape from the highest point and let it puddle on the floor, great window!

Paint a cool aqua. Roman shades on window in a print. I would paint moulding white. It would lighten the room. You have a lot of very heavy furniture. Can you put something in the closet and then add a small comfy chairs with floor lamp.?

While searching for pictures of mirrored end tables, I saw some very nice bedrooms with mirrors above the end tables as well. I would never have thought to put mirrors there, but I suppose it would be a more economical option if required.

Can't put furniture in the closet. This is an old home so closet space is at a premium as it is, unfortunately. However, furniture not required to stay either.

Add a mirror over bed sunburst big 36" new bedding go all white. With aqua toss pillows. Lamps tall white drum shades.

Area rug at foot of bed in aqua and white. Push 2-3 ft under bed.

Go white ceiling fan.

I love colour and am certainly not afraid to use it. Unfortunately, any tone over medium is too dark for this room, which is really unfortunate.

Hi Genevieve. It's the big tree outside along with the shade on that side of the house. It makes the bedroom very dark.

You could give the tree a little trim to let more light in then ,nothing is impossible. You have a nice room with a lot of potential ,i like the green that was chosen but for a bedroom I would go a little darker ,after all its a room to relax.... and to sleep in .

Consider removing the molding at the ceiling in the room. Just take it carefully down and see if you don't like the room better. It makes the room appear squat because it stops your eye there. If you really want it back put it back up.
