They look like cup pulls that someone put on sideways.

They are the symmetrical on both sides (or top/bottom). Could be placed either way yes, but not a normal reach under cup pull.

Is it from Architectural Digest? If they featured it so prominently in an image, I suspect you could run it down from there.

They look annoying to grip.

I got a sample of this when I was choosing hardware and hated the function. It has a similar crescent shape without an opening to get your fingers behind. It comes in 6 colors but not gold.

I eventually installed it (I used pulls from the same line on my cabinets). I have an old pass-through that can open and close with a panel that slides up into the wall cavity like a window sash. Since I am sliding it rather than pulling, the grip issue didn't matter. I would happily use this on a sliding door, just not one I have to pull open.

These folks seems to have an interesting market niche, as they are touting "When installed vertically, the pull is non-loopable and features tamper-resistant security-grade fastening hardware" (I think non looping relates to their "suicide resistant products" specialization).

Oh its so nice that people take the time to consider and reply. Thank you so much. I actually finally found them online -- Commune Design. Absolutely gorgeous and absolutely over my price range. But oooh they are pretty. Ah well, that's ok. I will use your comments in my thoughts for looking for something a little closer to my expenses goals.
