For safety and to protect the quality of the rug, yes. Make sure the pad is non slip. Put sliders under the bed legs - for your type of flooring. Get a yardstick and measure the entire length of the end of the rug. Multiply that in half. Do the same for the end of the bed. Identify the halfway mark of both rug and bed with a removable sticker and match them up. I'm sure someone else has an easier way to do that!

That doesn't sound like a bad idea above. Also, if you're laying it on a wood floor the planks will help you get it straight. Take the mattress and box spring off the frame so the bed isn't as heavy. If it's still too heavy you will have to get another person to help. It doesn't sound like a one person job. :-)
