Would One Shutter be Weird?

I think I might like shutters. The left window would only have space for one shutter on the left. And then how would I shutter the window to the far right? Would it feel all unbalanced and lopsided with different sized shutters and different widths?

No shutters? One shutter? Not sure.

I don't think that style home is meant for shutters. You might perhaps consider changing the left window to something more attractive, focus on the trimwork, landscaping and front door color. Home has a lot of potential just needs a planned update when budget allows. Good luck!

Yes - it would be weird. To me, shutters only look good when they could actually be operable (correct width to cover a window, proper placement on trim, etc.) even then, they’re not for every house.

Good Landscaping could be helpful here.

Great contemporary house- it does not need shutters. It does need landscaping.

NO shutters and go look at your other post regarding this house I posted a inspiration for landscaping there.

You have a landscaping problem, not a shutter problem

Just to show you a single shutter example, the 19th c. house on the right was modernized in the 1940s( I think) and these are operable:

This is what a single shutter would look like on the two windows that need it and a double on the one hidden by the tree. I am not promoting it, just showing you what it would look like

No shutters. Some landscaping would add a finished and inviting look too.

I hadn’t noticed the terrible trimming on the crape myrtle. If you just bought look up crape murder.

I know, it’s so sad. Yes just bought.

Attractive house, congratulations on your purchase. Great brick colour. The asymmetry is part of its attractiveness and modern look, so don't think of it as a negative. Instead embrace it with a modern MCM look in trim colours, house number etc. I assume there is more of the house to the left. It'd be nice to see it. Garage?

The light blue front door would look much better in another colour, maybe bronze? Or charcoal trim like the picture below? Depends on the garage side of the house too. If/when you replace the door, go with a modern look and not an arched glass insert which is more traditional.

Needs landscaping to bring out the best in this look, and give it to balance. If you'd like advice on that start another thread with more pictures of the whole house and the front areas. And let us know your planting zone (or closest big city). From the picture it looks like the bed between the walkway and the house is too narrow to put the right kind of big wow plant that should go in front of that wide brick area. You may need beds on either side of the walkway. That's a great look.

I can see your house with some modern-style tall grasses, spiky plants. Rectangular beds.

Ohh boy! No shutters. Go Mid-Century modern with bronze trim, mcm front door, lights, front bench/chairs numbers, landscape...etc.

Great house. As others have noted, don't spend money on shutters. Do spend money on a MCM door and house numbers from etsy, mounted on your brick, not the thin column. Your house is sooo attractive - congratulations!

Looks like that's a hanging lantern? Lights set into your canopy would be cool and suit the house style, even if just a couple more set in a straight line.

One shutter would be weird lol

If you are working with a limited budget, consider at least painting your door a color and putting your money into landscaping. A well designed landscape will balance out that window you want to put a shutter on.

Agreed. You definitely need to bring in a dark, contrasting color
