I like the look of your entire space as is. I like the pops of color in kitchen rug & on shelves of island. Very nice. I can’t tell just how much space there is between the island & half wall but if you want a change, could you move table away from wall & put a red round rug under it? Either a solid red or a pattern with red, yellow, black. I like both leopard print seat chairs & dining chairs!

Thanks! I’m researching rugs. Probably the biggest bang for the buck. I have matching chairs.. I was deciding between these two.. I have 4 of each.

Another option would be a chilewich rug...its more like a huge placemat, but makes it easy to clean.

I think your kitchen/dining is beautiful as is. I would not place a rug there. I prefer the solid back chairs.

I don't think pushing in and pulling out chairs works very well with area rugs.

Is there any reason why the area would be without a table or is a table going to be sitting there more or less all of the time? If so a hanging fixture over it would help to fix it in place.

The table will always be there.. we use it a lot because the island only has two bar stools. When I updated the kitchen I didn’t want the big island and no table. I still like a kitchen table for quick meals. Dining room for the rest.

I think a cowhide rug - black and white - would look cool in your space.

I agree with palimpsest: a hanging light fixture would aid in anchoring, and wouldn’t have to be wired; could be just a candle holder type.

My 2 cents….. I don’t think a rug is needed, nor appropriate for that spot.

I think it would look better if it was just moved away from the wall a bit. I don't see the need for a rug either.

How about built in seating or bench on that pony wall. Then maybe you would only need 1 or 2 chairs and the space would be well defined.

I happen to have a bench in the adjoining hallway.. scootched it over to get a feel.. thoughts? I kinda like it. But bigger pillows for comfort. The pony wall is short.

Lisa, I think it looks great. Agree about some bigger/lumber pillows. This accomplishes the goal of moving the table farther away from the wall and defining the space.
