Where in zone 6a and any chance of pix? Knowing how you cared for them would also help.

Since 2021 has been much wetter than normal for much of the country, there is a risk that the trees have been overwatered. And a great deal will depend on soil conditions and how the trees were planted initially.

The more information you provide - including photos - will make it easier for us to assess the problem. Right now we can only guess :-))

We're in Ohio. We were instructed to leave the burlap on the root ball by the greenhouse, so we pulled it back at the top for about a 10 - 12" opening. We ran a drip line on the trees for a few months and watered them with a hose about weekly from spring through most of the summer. We have mostly clay soil. The holes we made were probably about 1.5 - 2x the diameter of the root ball. We also mulched over the area, but away from the trunks with about a 2 or 3" thickness.

I'll work on attaching some photos tonight or tomorrow.

I would not have left the burlap. Is any of it poking out of the soil?

Need to make sure the moisture is correct. You've got to get some inches into the rootball of one of them to make sure it's not too wet and not too dry.

interior yellowing and browning is normal and cyclical ... if not yearly ...

it can be significantly increased by transplanting.. especially yuge field dug ball and burlaps ...

if its all interior.. your future is in the buds that should be on the tree now.. include a pic of those ..

what does your seller/installer say about it.. i would presume you have a warranty ...

@L Clark (zone 4 WY) Great idea with checking the moisture inside of the rootball itself. We just had an unusually heavy rain, so I will probably give it a day or two before checking.

@tsugajunkie z5 SE WI ♱ I'm concerned that leaving the burlap on may be a factor. It is able to be accessed beneath the mulch.

@plantkiller_il_5 That is a good thought as well. We'll try to check the rootball to see if it seems to wet or too dry.

@ken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5 I'll have to check the buds. I'm not sure what, if any, warranty the greenhouse offers. I'm definitely hoping they're warrantied, but also hoping I can recover them and not need to go there...
