Do the leaves have a citrus scent when crushed? Are the green blobs buds or embryo fruit? My first impression is that this is a lemon or lime.

1. No, the leaves have no scent when crushed.

2. The blobs remain at this stage, so I don't know what they are. Last year we had the same situation.

Thank you all. Concerning the 'blobs', they didn't bloom or turn into anything last year.

An in focus close up of the blobs would tell us if it was a Camellia. That was my other option but I could see no bud scales. The way the twigs are broken off made me think citrus. A better photo would help.

Yep. Camellia. Now I can see the bud scales. possibly the buds never opened because it is not suited to being a house plant. It needs cool, fresh air and excellent light but not strong sunshine. If it doesn’t get the right conditions it will abort the buds.
