3 Way Switch Issues

last modified: 4 years ago

I had two lights connected to a functioning three way switch setup, I wanted one of the lights to have a dedicated switch. I purchased a double switch (1 3-way & 1 regular). When I re-wired the three way light, my new switch turns the light on and off but the old three-way does nothing, I did some troubleshooting and realized I had the wire to the light on one of the legs. I switched it so that the light wire was on the common of the second in line three way. The light stayed on regardless of switch combination. Then, I thought the old switch might be bad, so I switch it out for a new one. Before turning the power back on I checked both switches with a multi meter to make sure the switch was working properly. However, the issue but the light stays on regardless of switch combination persists. Any ideas?Addt info: the second light on the normal switch works fine. I have power going to the common on the first in line three way, and in both legs are connecting gold to gold and gold gold.
