So, klem1, what are your thoughts on the product -- do you recommend?

Empire heaters are designed and built as well as any and better than a few. I have no experience with Williams/Cozy. Of service calls I've had on this type heater,more were flue/combustion air intake issues than parts malfunctions. None of the vent problems were mfgr's defect but rather improper installation and/or failure to maintaine weather cap.

The technology behind wall furnaces is almost old as a campfire so I don't believe you will find a piticular company on the leading edge of improvements. The best advice I have is make sure co and smoke detectors are kept operational but that apply's any time flames are involved.

I like this phrase and think it's quite apt. 50 years ago, my college apartment had a gas wall heater on an exterior wall. The building was far from new and the heater appeared to date from Day One. It worked quite well - and that was one without a blower fan.

One thing I do remember, is that when cooler days came and the heater was first turned on after many months of not being used, it produced a smell for the first 30 minutes or so.
