We have a 1910 Colonial. It’s spacious but the floor plan has a lot of dead space (like a long entry hall and transitional space between the sunroom and dining room. The galley kitchen won’t work well for our family of 5 so we are planning on remodeling the kitchen. Initially I was thinking that we’d remove the wall (which is load bearing) between the kitchen and dining and making one big kitchen. However, now I’m thinking that we turn the dining room into the kitchen and keep the existing kitchen space as a butler pantry/laundry room. However, I really want to have a dining room table as well—I am wondering whether we can convert the dead space (by the red X) into a dining room by taking out the half wall (no idea if that is load bearing). Is that room too small? I’ve included my very basic idea sketch (lacking tech skills, ha so I’ve also included my drawn sketch)—thoughts on whether this idea is workable? The second photo is if we took down the wall and made one big kitchen.
