Play up or tone down cement wall?

Hello, Our cabin has newly refinished log exterior. One of us thinks it would look smoking with stack stone below the logs to dress up the cement wall. The other thinks the cement wall should be toned down to allow the logs to catch the eye without competition. If no stack stone, what do you think should be done with it? Thank you in advance:)

I don't think I'd put stone there because it's not an area that you want to draw attention to, and it will draw the eye downward; I'd paint it instead.

I have a log-sided home, similar in color but darker. My cement below the logs is a light grey-blue -- is there but not really noticeable, mostly because the landscaping obscures it for the most part.

No I don't love what I have, but it doesn't bother me. My advice would be keep the area very visually quiet -- don't highlight it. Maybe a cement grey or boring non-offensive beige in the same tone as the logs.

What's going to help you immensely in landscaping on that sloped side.

My vote is the stone application below (the areas are not large enough to detract from the logs) and think it will add/feel more finished.

Stone in this tone (don't go too orange), sized approproately for the space.

This stone is from Lowe's. I like there is a bit of the log color, but there are other lovely warm colors in the mix.

I’d be more inclined to stain it and not spend the money on the stacked stone, but I think it would be fine either way.

I think stacked stone would be fine if it were a narrow straight line all the way across, but it's not. Stacked stone on that sloped part of the house where the cement is stepped would not look good IMO -- that's the sort of thing you just don't want to emphasize. Paint it and landscape around it.

I'd paint the cement at the bottom of the stairs and along side the house a few shades darker than the logs. There isnt' room for stone at the bottom of the stairs and you're better off with foundation plantings on the side with the ladder. Under the porch, because there's a lot of cement, I might put some stone, but paint would work, too.

^^^^ I agree with Patricia. If the plain cement bothers you too much to wait until the landscaping fills in, I'd paint it to blend with the wood. I had plain cement foundation that could be seen on one side of the front of my home when it was initially built due to the way the yard sloped. Some of it still was visible even after adding terraced raised landscaping beds. However, it only took a short time for the landscaping to fill in - I don't remember even thinking about the cement after the beds were added + planted.

So you see you will not get a consesus, let alone a majority. I find Sigrid's break down closest to what my choices for my home would be. Start in the back where the cement is most prominent and see what you think.

I would prefer landscaping to hide the concrete wall instead of installing stack stone.
