I have a 9 x 13 rug in my 15 ft by 22 ft living room with two couches. I am wanting to put some kind of accent chair/chairs also. Could someone tell me how to arrange the rug and furniture

I would turn the rug 1/4 turn as well, so the furniture is at least partially on the rug.

I haven't put the couches on the rug yet because I was wondering if the rug should be turned the other way. Should I have one or two accent chairs or none?? hope these pictures help

Maybe it's my monitor but I'm having trouble figuring out what color your furniture and walls are. Are they gray or tan? I think the room and rug are fabulous... I'm not crazy about your furniture. If you plan to keep everything, you need to tie it together with artwork and curtains. What is your favorite brighter color... teal, yellow, orange, turquoise, etc. Any of these would work. Find artwork, curtains, and an accent chair in that color (or a print with that color). Throw some cushions on the couches with this color and other colors from your artwork and curtains. I would orient one of the sofas to face the fireplace (if one is longer, use it). Then I would put the other sofa on one side and 1 or 2 chairs on the other. You also need some tables. You have a great start, don't ruin it by trying to stay too neutral.... let your personality shine!!

You should leave the rug where it is in the first photo. I think the only way you can add some chairs is to move the couches down a far as you can at the end of the rug, and put two chairs flanking each side of the fireplace. This, of course, depends on the size of the chairs. You can then accessorize with different things to see what looks pleasing to you.

Put sofas on rug. Or get another smaller one. If keeping because its so big you have to put sofas on rug. Try by putting all legs on rug. That would give you more of a cozy feel. Add a large square coffee table. In middle of rug. Add 2 accent chairs in a print. Together straight on looking at fireplace. Go gray, cream and a accent color like yellow or teal in print. Add accent color to sofas, mix it up with gray, and some prints. Add panels to window, in a solid dove gray woven fabric. Extend rod pass window as much as you can. Put big tall palm in corner by firepl and window. Take a pic of firepl wall. On coffee table add a wood tray fill with white faux orchids . And big coffee table books. Behind sofa by windows ass a narrow sofa table add two very big base and tall drum shades in lite gray. Base do in accent color. Tape cord dn. even though no will walk back there. To sofa table put a lamp on each ends and add tall 3 candlesticks, plants. Take pic of rm from windows. You might need a table behind other sofa. On that one no lamps. Fill with green plants and books. I know you only ask for rug placement. But as a designer I can't help myself. LOL.

I think you are off to a fine start, but I would definitely pull the sofas in and leave the rug where it is. Add a rectangular coffee table, perhaps about 24x48 would be a good size for the scale of the sofas, and have it go the same direction as the rug (which I would leave how you have it). You only need about 14-16 inches between the coffee table and the sofa so that you can reach the table easily. Add some pillows, style the coffee table with some books and perhaps a plant, and you've got it!

I see TV wall now. Lean a big 6 ft mirror on wall on other side of Firepl. In a thick dark frame secure on back with wire. Make it 36" wide at a min. You need big bold art on back walls.

Coffee table should be 36". Square

If you turn the rug like so many have said, I would love to see your couches make an L with one facing that focal wall. Moving the couch away from the window opens that up and that is where I would put the chairs. Put a nice end table in the L part of the couches and wondering if a lamp could even be plugged in? Console table??? BIG palm back in the corner by the fireplace and the window to cozy up that area with the chairs there....table and lamp between. Big piece of art or a mirror on the wall opposite the window and another art piece opposite the tv/fireplace.

Anne dee has the correct floorplan. No mirrors unless your reflecting something pretty. No fake greenery of any kind. If you must go that route, find preserved pieces. On line, DalMarco.

I'm a person who likes elbow room, and I was just thinking about you having enough room to move about. Perhaps you could put the sofa that has its back to the big window opposite the fireplace on the edge of the rug, and then you could fit a couple of chairs where it was in front of the window. A table between them would be nice, but I would think it would need to be on the narrow side.
    Have fun shopping!
