What zone are you in?

Native plants usually do okay without extra watering, once they are established. Are you going to want a shed for watertoys, kayak rack or anything like that? What about a patio? If so, plan that first.

I would plant different trees so you can't see your neighbors across the pond so easily. But that's a personal preference.

We can't really be too specific without knowing the zone. And are you focused on the view from where you're standing when you took the photo, or from the house in the background?

As mentioned, native plants that will thrive in your location area your best bet. First priority is to find a landscape designer who knows the area and plants you should use. If you have the budget, some hardscape would be nice.

As others have said, we don't know your planting area, but a local garden designer will. You'll want to take into account how you'll want to use the space. Is there currently a deck/porch that looks down on this space and that's where all your seating and hanging out will take place? Do you envision any lawn games, kids outdoor playsets, etc. Or is the space strictly for getting to the lake? This photo shows a nice mix of hardscaping, mulch, and shrubs that probably don't need too much maintenance and beautiful to look at from the house or to and from the lake.
