show more of the kitchen. cabinets have a certain appeal. glass doors on the uppers? applied end panels on peninsula. try new hardware/ white walls and backsplash/ patterned floor mats. counters are nice. I'd try to work with the grand wood cabinets. they are worth leaving alone. other things are needed [light paint to walls and new backsplash] so do those check off items.

its hard to figure out the possibilities. problem may be lighting and the green/ red theme. if it were mine id paint the walls get lighting / new hardware / work on the dining zone w area rug / table chairs etc . looks like you just moved in or simply dont spend much time there. look at those great upper cabs w double sided glass doors . w better light and some crystal or even just large wine glasses / larger bowls / display things ....that can be special.

I agree with herbflavor, and would also add undercabinet lighting, which would also be more functional than standing in your own shadow to work.
