Curtain Ideas for Sliding Glass Door in Master Bedroom

We bought our house in May, but opted to remodel Master Bath as soon as we moved in. Consequently, we haven't "lived" in Master Bedroom yet. As the bathroom is nearing completion we started moving furniture into the Master.

I love all the light we get from the sliding doors, but we live in TX so the room is really hot. We ended up putting the original curtains (hello 1980s) that came with the house just for the interim.

The door is 96" wide and currently the curtain rod is 90" off the ground. The existing curtains are close to 12 feet wide, but I'm thinking we should go for curtains closer to the width if the door to make that wall seem bigger.

If you're interested in a cleaner, more modern look...consider vertical panel blinds ....they stack up when opened, and are sleeker in my opinion.

Vertical panel blinds are very much out of style. If you're concerned about heat you could put up a heat blocking film and get some lighter drapes (lighter in texture) with a more neutral curtain rod. We have some patio doors that we have covered with "Sun blinds". These do a great job of blocking heat while still allowing the view. They are somewhat transparent at night when the light is on so the drapes would come in handy for privacy.

For good sleeping you want drapes to be room darkening. Silhouettes are very pretty, sheer and elegant but can be closed at night. Otherwise I would get a silk type drape. You can close when real hot and at night.

We definitely don't want to do blinds. We have a cat who loves to eat them and rattle them around (we had them in a past apartment). Darkness for sleeping and temperature are both a consideration.

Conceptually, what you have is the best way to go, it's just dated. Silver/bronze hardware, what ever works with the room would be great. Instead of the pinch pleats on top you can go with draperies with grommets. Have them backed with room darkening. If you go for draperies closer to the width of the door, the stack on the left and right are going to impede on the light coming in. It's also going to create a negative wall space to the left and right of window, which is going to catch the eye. Good luck!
