First flower on C cirrhosa 'Freckles'

Last year, I was looking for clematis texensis and found it, but also decided that paying shipping for just one thing is too hard...so a clematis cirrhosa came into the basket (having never seen one growing here). Well it opened the first flower this week. It's climbing up my fringe tree, which seasonally seems to work for cirrhosa. But the time the fringe tree is filling in, the clematis has entered summer dormancy and now the leaves are falling on the fringe tree while the clematis is growing and will allow photosynthesis till dormancy.

The texensis also showed one flower this year...again, it should be nice this year I hope.

I hope more flowers next year, but for a itsy bitsy plant last February, it's nice to just see one. Any one else in comparable zones grow it?

I grew one in my former garden. I had it planted at the base of a raised deck support. It grew rapidly and with great vigor up the support (maybe 10') and then along the deck railing. Fully evergreen, it was quite massive!! Bloomed quite reliably through winter but also tossed out intermittent flowering the rest of the year.

I miss it. I am tempted to plant another but have no idea where to plant in my now tiny garden (that already accommodates another couple dozen clematis!).

Mine went leafless through the heat (which is more here than you experience) and only started releafing in October.

Very beautiful, I just need it to grow so I get lots of those ;)

GG, does it flower till spring with cycles or just one flush?

Mine never produced a real flowering "flush". Just intermittent flowers produced all winter long. And a few that were produced during the warmer seasons as well!

Well, I think given the nature of winter (and freezes spoiling flowers on lonicera sempervirens), sporadic flowering sounds just fine and probably more appreciated than one big flush anyway.
