Thanks Ken. I forgot to say I'm located on the southern border of Virginia and yes these were outside last winter. He did try to grow a few dahlias years ago and I had no idea there was some Roots remaining.

Where are you in the world? Do you remember anything about the top of the plant? Do you know if it's an annual or perennial? Why did you dig them up?

Without any further information, they look like daylily roots to me.

Thank you blueberry. That did jog my memory that I had put daylilies in that pot and they had died back. I just had too many of my things and other old things left on the deck and trying to clean up. I am located right in the center of the Southern border of Virginia.
