Not really spring. These flower in the winter. Winter Iris is one of the common names.

Mine isn't as happy as it could be, I was wondering if I would get any blooms this year or not (haven't yet)...I should go inspect it for buds.

Mine also has not bloomed......not in the three or four years I have had it. Have no idea why. Iris typically bloom in spite of what conditions (other than full shade) they are grown in.

I think I had a few flowers two years ago, and a few a couple of years before that. I really need to move mine, it's shaded too much (err interplanted?) and would probably prefer a bit drier place to grow.
Any winter flowering plant is wonderous for me. Glad the OPs plant is in flower!

Lin, there are also named cultivars. I don’t know what mine is or whether it's just the species. It came from my Dad who got it from a neighbour. It’s an old fashioned pass along plant over here. One of its common names here is Algerian Iris but I see that in German it is Cretan.

could be that it is not really hardy

I started off gardening in Berlin where few evergreen thrived or Gaura was strictly annual, I saw that the local botanical garden has it listed, they have or had till very recently a very large Iris-collection including species, not only barbata-cultivars
